Ten Ways to Mark Black History Month

10 Ways To Mark Black History Month

Uncategorized Black History Month 0 Comments

We have lots of content planned for Black History Month 2021, many of which we’ll collect in a toolkit for partners to use. (Check back as we add more to it through the month of February.) We thought we’d also pass along some suggestions:

  1. Film Watch Party & Discussion – Watch Good Trouble, Becoming, or another film.
  2. Host a Livingroom Conversation on Race & America.
  3. Reach out to faculty connections to request an African-American Studies Professor to host a presentation.
  4. Reach out to expert in race relations such as Ibram X. Kendi to host a virtual dialogue.
  5. Host a virtual poetry slam where Fellows read their favorite black poets.
  6. Host a virtual tour of a museum, such as the African-American Museum in Philadelphia, the New York Public Library’s Digital Schomburg, or the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History & Culture.
  7. Host a virtual art exhibit featuring black artists’ work.
  8. Host a poster contest with the Fellows to celebrate Black History Month/ Civil Rights Movement/ Black Lives Matter Movement.
  9. Have students create Step-routine videos to share on social media.
  10. Host a virtual mock Supreme Court trial on cases affecting Black rights.

If you have suggestions to add to this list, let us know, and we’ll be happy to pass them on.
