Kaila Pouncy recently graduated from The University of Alabama, Summa Cum Laude, with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and Political Science. While at the university, she held leadership positions across several organizations that promote civic engagement, such as the Blackburn Institute, Student Government Association, the Women and Gender Resource Center, IGNITE National, and the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A trailblazer and a community leader, Kaila has a wide range of experience serving in the community, especially through the founding of her organization, Tide Against Time. Kaila has gained experience through fellowships and internships with several highly esteemed social action organizations including the ACLU of Alabama, Alabama Appleseed, IGNITE, Southern Black Girls, Woke Vote and Congresswoman Terri Sewell. She has been referenced by a number of media outlets including The Birmingham Times, The Guardian and USA Today. Her plans for post-graduation include exploring criminal justice reform opportunities through the nonprofit sector and progressing on to law school.
